Wall of Commedia dell'Arte

Arlecchino, Pantalone, Brighella, Colombina, Pulcinella et al hang out at Zacaria's, a small shop right beside La Fenice in which all the objects (including the pictured figures, as well as large fully-functioning marionettes) are handmade by the owner.

  1. I think the best tradition od wall commedy and marionette belongs to south Italy but in Venice every thing become new and original!

  2. I would like to learn more about i burattini in the south of Italy, but I believe that both Pantalone and Arlecchino are Venetian in origin. Of course Pulcinella is Napolitano but Domenico Tiepolo seems to have adopted him for Venice in the frescoes now displayed in Ca' Rezzonico.
